    In this role, you will work with a renowned group of Research and Development machine learning scientists/engineers and statisticians utilizing your expertise and knowledge to do what has never been done before at SAS.  We’re not looking for an analytics tester to simply validate algorithms but rather a creative and passionate analytics tester who wants to touch most every aspect of life by testing reinforcement learning algorithms that can change the world. 

     

    The nature of this role will have you focused on researching and testing reinforcement learning algorithms and fusing them into the wide range of products here at SAS.  Therefore, we are seeking to hire someone who can handle such a high profile position and will be scrutinizing all applicants closely. 

     

    You will have the opportunity to:

    • Work closely with the Reinforcement Learning development team
    • Lead numerical validations of RL algorithms
    • Perform RL benchmark testing against open source packages on SMP, MPP, and GPUs
    • Provide the performance and usability feedback to the RL development team
    • Prototype new RL architectures and algorithms along with the RL development team

     

    Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Professional knowledge in at least one analytical discipline, or advanced knowledge in several analytical disciplines.
    • Programming experience using: SAS, Python, or Lua
    • Basic scripting skills for test automation.
    • Programming experience with matrix-oriented languages like SAS/IML, Matlab, R or S-Plus;
    • Experience with RL and/or worked on foundations of sequential decision making like Markov Decision Processes, Stochastic Processes and optimization; 
    • Familiarity with open source machine learning packages like TensorFlow, PyTorch, and Chainer. (is a huge plus).
    • Strong ability for teamwork and motivation for collaborations
    • Experience with testing software
    • Experience with multiple operating systems, such as UNIX and Windows

     

    Preferences:

    • Ability to handle deadlines in multi-tasking environment
    • Ability to quickly learn new technical skills
    • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance on day-to-day work and new projects or assignments
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Ability to demonstrate flexibility in adapting to changing priorities
    • Experience with developing & implementing test plans

     

    Education and Experience Required:

    • Master’s degree or a Ph.D. in statistics, biostatistics, applied mathematics, economics, operations research or a related field (Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, or Deep Learning is a plus).

     

    Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered in place of the requirements above.
