  • Overview

    We are looking for a Staff Scientist to join our Data Science and Emerging Technologies team. In this role, you will prototype, develop, and evaluate  software and machine learning models for solving high value business problems by developing and using SAS Analytics software and provide support and training for internal and external customers.  Additionally, you will have the opportunity to be a thought leader among the data science community through publishing blogs, machine learning code snippets and podcasts for SAS Artificial Intelligence technologies.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Prototype, develop, evaluate software components and high-quality analytical models for solving business problems. Includes evaluation of external vendor software.
    • Collect and analyze data for accuracy, consistency as well as novel and useful information.  Can include customer data.
    • Research, prototype and implement high-end analytic models utilizing supervised and unsupervised statistical modeling and machine learning techniques
    • Interacts with customers including development partners and early adopters to collaboratively build and evaluate software   
    • Writes coherent reports and makes presentations on high-end analytical projects.
    • Delivers presentations at SAS or non-SAS events that establish thought-leadership and the value proposition of SAS.
    • Writes blogs, machine learning code examples and blogs for the data scientist community.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Essential Qualifications:

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Master's degree in statistics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or the physical sciences.
    • 2 years relative experience analyzing data and/or building analytical models.
    • Experience with machine learning algorithms and software packages like SAS Enterprise Miner, MATLAB and scikit-learn.
    • Skilled in SAS, Python or R.
    • Ability to build and deploy CNN and RNN deep learning models.


    • Java programming.
    • Experience with Natural Language Processing a plus.
