  • Overview

    Performs pricing and market analysis, and coordinates the implementation of pricing for SAS’s products and solutions within the government market in order to optimize profits and meet sales, marketing, financial and corporate growth objectives. Participates in the business planning process within the US Government and Education business unit for new and emerging initiatives. Provides front line support for an assigned team of Account Executives, Sales Managers and Sales Directors in matters related to pricing, overall deal structure, licensing strategy and sales operations. Supports SAS’ product marketing function through research and analysis of the government market, competition and product mix. Researches and analyzes the competitive pricing environment and future trends and makes recommendations based on findings. Communicates recommendations and findings up and down the organization via formal and informal presentations. Publishes updates on market pricing conditions to track company progress in specialized market niches or product technology disciplines.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Works collaboratively with Sales, Legal, Licensing Operations, and other departments to develop compliant pricing and packaging strategies for the government market.
    • Facilitates deployment of pricing best practices across Sales and Operations organizations.
    • Prepares pricing and revenue impact reports.
    • Consolidates information from multiple sources into recommendations, reports, presentations and communication messages regarding pricing strategies.
    • Participates in the business planning process for new and emerging products and initiatives to assist in the identification of pricing, naming and packaging needs.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Provides front-line customer support to our internal users of pricing, packaging, and naming tools.
    • Engage as a front-line pricing resource for an assigned territory within the US Government and Education business unit.
    • Advise USGE Account Executives and Sales Management in matters related to overall deal structure including (but not limited to) licensing options, potential procurement paths and appropriate fee schedule to use for a given opportunity.
    • Serve as a liaison for the business unit to various internal stakeholders (i.e. Legal, Licensing Operations, Sales Processing) in order to keep these teams engaged/informed in our business unit sales efforts.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge in the use of data analysis tools, the application of research methodology, and data collection methods.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to translate technical information into simple language.
    • Understanding of the enterprise software industry preferred.
    • Data analysis skills in SPSS or SAS, Excel and Access preferred.
    • Strong organizational skills for managing commitments, schedules, and deadlines.
    • Ability to effectively present complex information with business implications to non-research and non-technical audiences.
    • Strong analytical and conceptual thinking abilities.
    • Ability to analyze and synthesize large quantities of disparate information when developing recommended solutions.
    • Ability to travel as business needs dictate.
    • Advanced understanding of general government procurement practices, policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of SAS’ government customer base.


    Works on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Networks with key contacts outside own area of expertise.


    Determines methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other personnel (Team Lead).

    Problem Solving

    A seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of area of specialization; resolves a wide range of issues in creative ways. This job is the fully qualified, career-oriented, journey-level position.


    Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a quantitative discipline; MBA or MA with emphasis on research, statistics and analysis highly desirable.


    Typically requires five years of experience in marketing, pricing, finance, social sciences, social sciences research, or a related field. (Experience in a specific domain, industry, technology, or solution directly related to area of assignment may be used to satisfy this requirement).


    Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered in place of the requirements stated above.


    Physical Requirements:

    Work is typically performed in an office environment, using simple, easy muscular movements, involving only the handling of light materials, tools, or equipment in easy work positions, and with no special speed requirements or long stretches of exertion. Vision requirements for this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
