  • Overview

    Summary of Duties: The Research Statistician Developer works as part of SAS Econometrics software development team and creates innovative software to apply cutting-edge econometric and time series methods.

     

    Primary responsibilities include:

    • Researching of statistical methodology and computational algorithms;
    • designing of software tools for economic modeling;
    • programming and testing of modules;
    • guiding junior developers in performance of supporting programming tasks;
    • authoring user documentation and papers to communicate the best use of the software for economic analysis;
    • presenting to professional audiences about the product and analytical methods;
    • communicating with other SAS professional staff in Testing, Technical Support, Education,

    Marketing, and other departments;

    • performing other tasks as assigned; and
    • developing time series econometric modeling software for fitting and forecasting hidden

    Markov and related multivariate time series models.

     

    Qualifications:  Position requires a Doctorate in Economics, Statistics, or a related quantitative field plus one (1) year of dissertation research or work experience in a related field. Position requires experience and/or education in the following:

    • Statistical methods and computational algorithms for multivariate time series modeling, particularly in the area of hidden Markov models;
    • 1 year of experience in Econometrics or time series research (which may include PH.D. dissertation research);
    • Programming in C, C++, Fortran, or similar scientific programming language; and
    • Bayesian computing or nonparametric modeling

     

    Skills may be gained concurrently as part of a PhD educational program.
