What you’ll do  

As a Software Developer and Support Engineer at SAS in the Computer Services division within R&D, you will be a member of the core R&D team that develops, tests, and deploys the SAS Intelligent Decisioning suite of products.

 

You will interact directly with core software developers, testers, product managers, technical support, and customers. The software includes design, production, batch, and real-time components. These products are developed for business to use in online production systems to automate operational business decisions. The software is used in a variety of industries including consumer banking, customer management, retail, fraud, finance, manufacturing, and collections. 

 

You will work on an engineering team that delivers dedicated technical support for key customers. This position requires direct and proactive communication with customers in a 24/7 support delivery model. You will be required to be on call some nights and weekends; however, you will receive additional support from designated support staff as well.

 

What we’re looking for

  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.
  • You have a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related quantitative field.
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience with Java or C languages, including debugging complex systems.
  • Experience providing customer support for commercial software with SLA requirements.
  • Deep knowledge of Linux systems, memory issues, disk issues, user and process tracking, system admin.  You should be able to take statements like ‘process is hung’ and identify system level actions needed to move the problem to the next level.
  • Proficiency with computer system performance measures and optimization. The ability to apply those skills to micro-services administration and debugging run time issues.
  • Well-practiced with Enterprise systems architecture, Apache httpd usage and configuration, micro-services, and Postgres.

 

The nice to haves  

  • Production software development and debugging experience in Java.
  • Java app trouble shooting (heap dump / thread dump / jvm settings / general jvm monitoring).
  • Experience with SAS systems, components, installation, configuration.
  • MIS/IT support experience.

 

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities

  • Strong technical, organizational, leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with customer interaction and management.
  • Knowledge of customer support systems, issue tracking, and administration.
