Come join our dynamic SAS Solutions as a Service/Site Reliability Engineering team.  The team is applying new technologies and implementing methods to deploy, support, operate and scale SAS software products and solutions in cloud environments.  Our current deployments are in the Amazon (AWS) or Microsoft Azure cloud environments.  We seek eager, innovative, talented, driven engineering candidates to develop, innovate, and build stable, secure, reliable, and highly available solutions.


As a Cloud Solutions Architect you will have the opportunity to work with cross-functional teams to architect the SAS product solutions, develop new deployment methodologies, automation, security and compliance, and operating infrastructure. We embrace a devops culture and use an agile development model to continuously deliver while also relentlessly seeking improvements in product capability, process, and quality. Your role will include solution architecture, deployment automation, monitoring, logging, metrics, security, backup/restore, serviceability, chaos engineering, business continuity management, all embracing continuous improvement.  The team establishes and propels best practices and a model Cloud SRE framework to scale across the institute. 


What you'll do

  • Provide architectural leadership, planning, and execution of globally dispersed production Cloud environment(s), covering management and delivery of software deployments, release management, configuration management, incident management, and network and security compliance.
  • Collaborate with product development team(s) to architect solutions in a Cloud first model driving and implementing SRE cloud services. 
  • Support for deployments and operational support of pre-production and production environments, including incident management, technical problem solving, demonstrating initiative and ownership.
  • Develop and leverage automation in all aspects of product delivery and support.
  • Work regularly with cloud service providers and 3rd party tooling addressing monitoring, logging, storage, networking, security, containers, IAM, backup/restore and disaster recovery methodologies.
  • Enhance continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) system for SaaS offerings.
  • Develop, document, and deliver technical requirements, designs, and operational standards for cloud SRE service area and integration with broader platform.
  • Ensure monitoring, management and control of offerings meet and exceed customer service level agreements and cost targets.
  • Continuously learn and grow.  Help establish Cloud roadmaps, technology adoption, metrics, and influence transformation to Cloud.
  • Willing to participate in on-call rotational assignments.

What we're looking for

  • 5 years programming proficiency with one or more SW development or scripting languages (ex. Java, Python, Ruby, Perl, Node.js, Go) and SDLC.
  • 5 years of experience in Cloud based, multi-tenant service development, compute engineering, automation, architecture, and implementation.
  • 5 years of experience with Linux/Unix server applications and infrastructure in a technologically diverse IT environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure or related Open Source offerings and infrastructure.
  • Understand container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes for continuous integration (CI) and continuous deployment pipelines (CD), build automation. Requires tools such as Jenkins, Hudson, Ansible, and Terraform.
  • Experience using source code control in GIT.
  • Passion for continuous learning and mastering computer-related technologies.
  • Must be a proactive, self-directed, detail-oriented, independent worker with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Adept at working in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and deliver on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of IT security best practices and compliance frameworks, such as ISO27001.
  • Location: must be located in Cary, NC area.

Other nice to haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, related field and/or 5-10 years of experience in developing and maintaining large-scale Cloud implementations.
  • Experience with enterprise monitoring or logging solutions (ex. ELK, Splunk, Sumologic) and monitoring tools such as Datadog, AppDynamics, Prometheus, Dynatrace, or New Relic is beneficial.
  • Public cloud provider certifications.
  • Ability to write clear and concise project documents, process and operational documentation.


  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered in place of the requirements stated above.
