JMP is an independent R&D division of SAS with a 30-year history of providing interactive, graphical, statistical discovery software to the engineering and scientific communities. Our customers are often the leaders in their fields, and your work will help them make important new discoveries.


What you’ll do:


In this role, you will work as a Software Developer within our JMP division. You will work on the back end of JMP Live, JMP’s new web-based collaboration and data visualization product. You’ll work with a small group of experienced developers in a casual atmosphere, while enjoying the benefits of working within one of America’s most admired companies.


We are using modern technologies to create JMP Live, so you will use your skills with Node.js, JavaScript, PostgreSQL (or similar) database and other open-source software to help us make JMP Live even more valuable to our customers.


Examples of our visualizations are here: You will be involved in all phases of design, development, and maintenance of JMP Live, and you will also have the opportunity to evangelize this product to customers. 


What we’re looking for:


  • Bachelor’s degree or greater in Computer Science or related quantitative field
  • General knowledge of software engineering tools, methodologies, and principles
  • 5+ years’ experience with JavaScript (2+ years with ES2016 or later)

  • 2+ years’ experience with an object-oriented language like Java, C++ or C#
  • Experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational database
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with SQL
  • An understanding of the nature of asynchronous programming
  • Strong interpersonal, documentation and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to think analytically and effectively communicate issues and solution
  • Work location: Cary, NC


 The nice to haves:


  • Experience with modern C++, for instance C++ 14
  • Experience developing Node.js applications
  • Experience using Jest or other unit testing framework
  • Experience with multiple operating systems, particularly Windows and MacOS
  • Familiarity with mobile browsers, particularly Chrome, Safari and Edge
  • Contributor to open source projects
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and tools, like Jira
  • Some knowledge of statistics
