Who you are
Are you focused and excited about bridging the gap between design and development?
You think in systems and care about the way a design feels and works. You care deeply about making sure the API interface is intuitive, functional, usable, and offers a positive experience for developers. You’re comfortable with the idea of helping the team achieve business OKRs and you work with technical roles, to make sure your design helps the team meet the technical KPIs, too. You’re comfortable working directly with API consumers and are proud to take on the “voice of the consumer” when helping the team make decisions about the look and feel of the API. Finally, you ensure the overall design matches established company-wide style guidelines.
Your workflow is flexible and evolves and adapts for each project. You are independently motivated, and always learning; reading industry books, keeping up with talks, blogs, and social media to remain up to date on new tech and best practices.
If you are passionate about creating intuitive and compelling interfaces, at home with RESTful APIs, proficient in the use of user-centered design methodologies, and love working on high-profile projects, we want to know more about you.
What you’ll do
As an API Design Engineer in the Experience Design R&D division at SAS, you will contribute to major projects built on RESTful APIs, whether APIaaS or APIaaP. You will define patterns, recommend consistent best practices, and adhere to standards (such as OpenAPI3); these are top concerns in your designs.
You will actively contribute to SAS’ API First Program, which is the governance and enablement arm of all API work at SAS. Knowledge, passion, and experience designing Restful APIs is crucial.
With the support of your core API system architects, UI engineers, and UX teammates, and in collaboration with Development, Documentation, and Product Management, you will help foster good API Design.
