If so, then you may be the new team member we’re looking for. Because at SAS, your curiosity matters – whether you’re developing algorithms, creating customer experiences or answering critical questions. Curiosity is our code, and the opportunities here are endless.

What we do:

We’re the leader in analytics. Through our software and services, we inspire customers around the world to transform data into intelligence. Our curiosity fuels innovation, pushing boundaries, challenging the status quo and changing the way we live.

JMP is the data analysis tool of choice for hundreds of thousands of scientists, engineers, and other data explorers worldwide. Users leverage powerful statistical and analytical capabilities in JMP to discover the unexpected.

What you’ll do:

JMP, a division of SAS, is looking for a talented and motivated Test Engineer to lead test development for the elements of the software that we consider the “building blocks of JMP”. In this role, you will be responsible for the quality of the portable display objects that make up many of the objects in the software. You will also be responsible for testing the internal JMP Scripting Language (JSL) including its latest evolution to become more like an object-oriented language. You will be asked to create tools and scripts to automate tasks as needed, both for your testing assignments and to support to group’s centralized test efforts. The ideal candidate has good judgment, is creative, wants to work in an innovative and high-energy environment, and is passionate about quality. We’re looking for curiosity and a testing mindset. The person in this role will work closely with development and will be a significant contributor to identification and resolution of bugs in the software.

You will:

  • Design, develop, and execute test plans, scenarios, and processes related to your primary work areas. Maintain and add to our test inventory.
  • Maintain existing (and design new) tools that support our automated testing framework.
  • Conduct exploratory testing. Identify problems and issues; follow through on those issues to verify a good resolution.
  • Interact directly with developers to give feedback on new or existing features, with a focus on optimizing product quality.
  • Communicate status and risks, managing project schedules.
  • Review relevant documentation related to your areas of responsibility; assist in the creation of documentation examples.
  • Ask questions and seek assistance as required without prompting.
  • Lead relevant team meetings and give demos in your areas as needed.
  • Exercise good judgment as to methods, techniques and evaluation criteria.
  • Coordinate testing procedures and schedules.
  • Affect the quality of software products by influencing the design and testability during development.
  • Plan, implement, and adjust scheduling strategies based on feature requirements.
  • Suggest process improvements.
  • Keep current regarding state-of-the-art technology.

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related STEM field.
  • 3+ years of experience writing software applications, testing software, and/or general programming.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Work effectively with others.
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

Other knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of Macintosh and Windows operating systems.
  • Programming skills in multiple languages, particularly scripting languages such as Javascript and Python. If you already know JSL, that’s also a huge plus.
  • Experience with Jira is a plus.
  • Solid understanding of software testing tools, methodologies and principles.
  • Knowledge of SAS products and their applications.

Why SAS:

  • We love living the #SASlife and believe that happy, healthy people have a passion for life, and bring that energy to work. No matter what your specialty or where you are in the world, your unique contributions will make a difference.
  • Our multi-dimensional culture blends our different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. Here, it isn’t about fitting into our culture, it’s about adding to it - and we can’t wait to see what you’ll bring.
