Sr. Kubernetes – PaaS Engineer – Cary, NC and surrounding areas

As a Sr. Kubernetes - PaaS Engineer, you will have the opportunity join a team of engineers that are developing Kubernetes platform solutions both on-prem and in the public cloud to support our internal business units and Managed Hosting Services business. This position will help guide the development, design, and implementation of complex orchestration and platform systems in a very simple and elegant way. Supportability of the developed solution is required and part of the role. 

Primary Responsibilities

• Learn every day, and expect technology to drive a new status-quo
• Provide Kubernetes platform service design for large-scale deployments and workloads
• Support Kubernetes in production for our Hosted customers
• Design an operations model which allows resiliency and self-service for our business consumers
• Build security into every aspect of your design
• Collaborate across business units and lead discussions on use case and requirements for Kubernetes platform services that align with corporate research and development strategy
• Assess complex technical problems and take ownership of projects with minimal guidance
• Utilize diverse set of systems administration and programming skills to build and manage automated systems

Essential Skills

• In-depth experience deploying and managing Kubernetes
• Builds trust and transparency through internal and external collaborations
• Experience utilizing, deploying, and/or supporting IaaS platforms such as OpenStack
• Experience managing services in a public cloud: Azure, AWS, GCP
• Experience with containerized services such as Docker, Kubernetes, and/or derivatives
• Willing to participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation
• Ability to troubleshoot complex networking problems
• Experience with modern coding languages such as Go or Python
• Strong Linux systems administration skills
• Strong documentation skills
• Experience in system operations managing incident, change & request

Preferences

• Experience developing, deploying, and supporting Kubernetes orchestration
• Experience with Red Hat Openshift or Rancher Kubernetes
• Experience deploying SAS Viya 4
• Experience with performance analysis and design
• Experience developing cloud solutions with security-by-design
• Strong python or Go programming skills
• Works well within a Kanban CI/CD development model
