What you will do:

As a Senior Data Scientist in the Customer Analytics team within the Customer Intelligence R&D division at SAS, you will help us build predictive analytics and recommender systems using statistical techniques and machine learning to drive more relevant, targeted and individualized communications to customers on all marketing channels.

You will:

  • Build high-end analytic models, utilizing applied statistics and machine learning techniques, to drive effective marketing and personalized customer experience - e.g., segment discovery, attribution models, recommender systems, etc.
  • Own the full lifecycle of model development from ideation and data exploration, algorithm design, validation, and testing.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams to prepare and manipulate structured and unstructured data for data discovery and mining from multiple disparate resources.
  • Prototype solutions using varied resources, including SAS software and open source software.
  • Assist in the estimation and scoping for analytical efforts.
  • Work as a mentor with junior members of the staff developing their skills and knowledge.
  • Facilitates discussions with executives and stakeholders to identify analytical opportunities.
  • Communicates key analytic findings to executives and stakeholders.

What we are looking for:

  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in analytics, mathematics, statistics, or other quantitative field
  • 8+ years of experience using applied statistics, machine learning, probability, data modeling techniques, predictive modeling techniques and in-sample and out-of-sample model assessment
  • Robust examples of using these techniques to solve business problems on large-scale data sets.
  • 6+ years of experience with one or more programming languages such as SAS, Python, R, PySpark, etc.
  • Excellent data exploration and manipulation skills.
  • Excellent quantitative reasoning and interpretation skills with strong ability to provide analysis-driven business insight and recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work well with peers and leaders across customer intelligence, product management, and engineering organizations.
  • Creative problem-solver who simplifies problems to their core elements.
  • Experience working with technical support on customer related issues

The nice to haves:

  • Any exposure to marketing analytics and web analytics is desirable
  • Experience using cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure for model development and operationalization is desirable.
  • Experience with SAS Viya and CAS is desirable
  • Familiarity with DevOps tools, unit testing and CI/CD workflows including Git
  • Experience with Agile software development practices
