SAS Product Design (https://www.sas.com/en_us/company-information/design.html) is a multidisciplinary design team with a strong user-centered design philosophy. Our user experience and visual designers work closely with product teams to transform requirements into compelling workflows and screen designs. A strong Design Ops program supports our work and our designers. We are excited that you are considering joining our team! 

 

As an intern, you might:  

  • Work with product management to solve business problems with design. 
  • Participate in collaborative design sessions with your design peers 
  • Contribute to and use our design system to ensure consistent design across products.   
  • Involve product teams in the design process to ensure that solutions can be implemented.   
  • Gather user data via methods such as task analysis, usability tests, participatory design, surveys, focus groups. 
  • Interactively test designs using low- and/or high-fidelity prototypes   
  • Analyze quantitative and qualitative data, and present findings and recommendations to the product team. 
  • Generate UI specification documents.

 

Required qualifications

  • You’re an undergraduate college student enrolled in an accredited program, not graduating prior to December 2025.  
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Information Science, Communication Arts, Fine Art, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science (Human Computer Interaction) or related field, in an accredited university.  
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.  
  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty.  
  • You’re interested in the future of Analytics and embrace technology.  
  • Be comfortable with a certain degree of ambiguity. A successful intern can create specific actions and paths from ambiguous goals and requirements.   
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.

 

Preferred qualifications

  • Some familiarity with design tools such as Paint/Photoshop/Illustrator/Figma/Balsamiq, etc.  
  • Some familiarity with UI technology such as CSS, HTML, React, etc. 
  • Extra points for familiarity with areas within UX design such as Accessibility, Responsive Design, Design Systems, Data Visualization, etc. 

  

Timeline 

  • Applications open: September 2024 
  • Applications close: This application will close October 20, 2024 (additional internship positions will be posted through March 2025)
  • Interviews begin: October 2024 on a rolling basis.
  • Internship: May 20 – August 8, 2025. If your university is on a quarter system, we can be flexible on start date.

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonus.
