As a Data Science Intern, your will be a part of the Health and Life Science development team, you will play a crucial role in supporting our healthcare data analysis and data management initiatives. You will work closely with our experienced data team members to collect, process, and analyze large datasets, helping to discover actionable insights from patients’ medical encounters. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work with cutting-edge healthcare data and analytics.  

As an intern, you might:   

  • Assist in data collection, processing, and quality checks. 
  • Perform basic data analysis and produce reports. 
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and implement data models and algorithms. 
  • Support the maintenance of databases and data systems. 
  • Participate in the design and development of new data tools and products. 
  • Engage in learning opportunities to enhance skills in data science and analytics. 

 

Required Qualifications   

  • Degree Type: Associates, Bachelor’s, Master’s
  • Attend a university partnering with the Going for Gold program  
  • Targeted majors: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics or similar fields  
  • Additional required skills/qualifications?  
  • EX: You've got programing experience in one or more of the following languages: Java, python, R, SAS, or Golang   
  • Work Hours: Available to work 15-20 hours per week during the academic year and full-time hours during the summer of 2025.   
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do.   
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal.   
  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty.   
  • You’re interested in the future of Analytics and embrace technology.   
  • You’re a college student enrolled in an accredited program, not graduating prior to December 2025.   

   

Preferred Qualifications   

  • Basic understanding of data processing and analysis techniques. 
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. 
  • Eagerness to learn and contribute in a fast-paced environment 

 

Location   

  • This position is Hybrid at the SAS Cary HQ, with the option to be fully remote

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph.D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonus.
