About the job
The Documentation team is looking for a Technical Editor (Emerging Careers) to perform edits on customer-facing documentation and to coordinate the editing, testing, and publishing phases. Our team works closely with writers and other project stakeholders throughout the company to contribute to overall quality and customer satisfaction with SAS content. As a Technical Editor (Emerging Careers), you will:
- Perform policy edits and copyedits, applying corporate style guidelines, writing guidelines, and Global English guidelines consistently and effectively to customer-facing deliverables (product documentation, embedded user assistance, how-to videos, technical papers, and so on).
- Test online documentation to meet quality standards; evaluate the scope and necessity of fixes; retest to verify fixes as necessary.
- Serve as a project leader for the editing, testing, and publishing phases of documentation for assigned product areas. Manage projects using applicable tools and reporting procedures. Collaborate with writers and other project stakeholders to produce quality deliverables on time.
- Apply knowledge of markup languages (e.g., XML and HTML) as needed, demonstrating proficiency with all relevant tools in the publishing environment.
- Apply topic content models and document type models. Work with writers during the planning and writing stages to develop and organize context.
- Participate in reviews of user interface text and software messages as needed.
- Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of experience copyediting technical, scientific, or computer software documentation, including one year of experience leading documentation projects through a publishing production process.
- Bachelor’s degree in a communications field or a technical or quantitative field.
- Demonstrated ability to follow corporate style, standards, group processes and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively under deadline pressure and to function as a project leader to coordinate the editing, testing, and publishing phases of documentation projects.
- Ability to work with writers to plan strategies and schedules for edits.
- Ability to work with and to test online documentation.
- Has technical knowledge sufficient to test documentation in all delivery systems.
- Must be located in or around the Cary, NC area.

- Knowledge of the lexicon and interfaces for one or more SAS products or solutions.
- Good interpersonal, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Mastery of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
- Ability to use publishing software tools effectively.
