About the job

As a Senior Backend Software Developer, you will be part of the SAS Software-as-a-Service team who are at the forefront of building the foundation and the platform that supports SAS’s future cloud offerings. As a member of the team, you will help develop some of SAS’s most exciting new products like SAS® Viya® Workbench and SAS® Enterprise Session Monitor. This role is ideal for a backend engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment, enjoys solving complex problems, and is passionate about building scalable, high-performance systems. This position requires an adaptable engineer that can seamlessly transition between multiple projects within the division. You will lead the design and development of backend services across multiple projects and play a key role in mentoring and guiding junior engineers.

 

As a Senior Software Developer, you will:

  • Architect, design, and implement robust backend services using Go or Java for various applications within the division.
  • Fully own and lead the development of one or more complex projects from concept to deployment.
  • Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
  • Participate in all steps of the continuous development lifecycle - including design, development, and testing.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence.
  • Ensure quality by creating and maintaining unit tests.
  • Provide support of the product to internal customers.
  • Collaborate with team members to implement innovative approaches to real world problems.
  • Collaborate with technical writers to share information with end users in the form of product documentation, videos, and/or white papers.
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization’s secure software development goals.

Work Location: Remote or Hybrid Cary, NC 

 

Required Qualifications

  • 8+ years of experience working on large complex software products as a developer.
  • 6+ years of backend development experience, with strong proficiency in Go or Java.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • Proven track record of leading complex software projects in a SaaS environment.
  • Solid understanding of microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, leadership-oriented mindset.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
  • Experience with CI/CD and associated tools like Jenkins, Git, Gerrit, Linux commands, etc.
