About the job

 

In this role, you’ll contribute to the core compute build stack that enables customers to access, prepare, analyze, and operationalize data at scale. You’ll primarily code in Python or Golang across Linux and Windows, collaborate with experienced developers and SDETs, participate in design/code reviews, and ship production‑quality software that powers SAS Viya. 

 

As a Software Developer (Emerging Career), you will:

  • Develop and maintain tooling associated with our build process.  This will include automation tasks associated with our pipeline and code compilation 
  • Follow R&D best practices for secure, testable, maintainable code; contribute to unit/performance test automation in partnership with Developers and SDETs 
  • Collaborate with Software Delivery Engineering to develop pipeline tools specific to composite container build 
  • Leverage container-based technologies such as Docker and Rancher 
  • Develop and modify YAML files to help resolve and troubleshoot pipeline issues 
  • Use Git/GitHub and CI/CD pipelines as part of daily development workflow.  

 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or a related field
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience 
  • Proficiency with Golang and Python
  • Familiarity with Linux and/or Windows development and basic shell tooling 
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes 
  • Working knowledge of Git and eagerness to learn CI/CD fundamentals 
  • Collaborative mindset, curiosity, and strong problem‑solving/communication skills reflected in coursework, projects, internships, or open‑source contributions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to C/C++ 
  • Interest in systems/runtime development (workload/job scheduling, resource management, analytics runtimes). 
  • Basics of containers/Kubernetes and public cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP) or observability tooling. 
  • Experience writing automated tests or partnering with SDETs on frameworks/containers.
