The SAS Data Ethics Practice (DEP) is a cornerstone of the company’s Responsible Innovation efforts, working internally and externally to: 

  • Guide SAS and its customers in the development and deployment of technologies that promote human well-being, agency and equity 
  • Develop platform capabilities, corporate oversight and corporate controls that ensure SAS’ approach to responsible innovation is coordinated globally.  
  • Establish SAS as a leading contributor to the growth of responsible innovation in the fields of AI and analytics 
  • Develop best practices to help SAS quickly respond to regulatory changes 

 

 

As an intern, you might: 

 

  • Design and prototype custom flows in SAS Studio that operationalize Trustworthy AI procedures such as fairness auditing, bias mitigation, explainability, and privacy safeguards. These flows will serve as reusable templates for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Contribute to the sas-trustworthy-ai-examples GitHub repository by developing industry-aligned examples, writing documentation, and engaging with the developer community. Past interns have laid the foundation for this growing resource 
  • Explore the use of autonomous agents to simulate decision-making scenarios and evaluate ethical outcomes.  

 

 

Required Qualifications 

 

  • You are an undergraduate student studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics or a related field, not graduating prior to December 2026. 
  • Familiarity with SAS programming, Python, or R. 
  • Understanding of AI governance principles and ethical AI frameworks. 
  • Experience with GitHub and open-source collaboration is a plus. 
  • You’re curious, passionate, authentic, and accountable. These are our values and influence everything we do. 
  • Strong communication skills – both written and verbal. 
  • Leadership abilities. Your past experiences demonstrate you’ll take initiative and go above and beyond the call of duty. 
  • You’re interested in the future of Analytics and embrace technology.

 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Basic understanding of statistical concepts, techniques, and appropriate use for techniques such as regression, properties of distribution and statistical tests  
  • Familiarity with the concept of AI, particularly in the realm of Trustworthy AI/Responsible/Data Ethics

Pay Transparency: The hourly rate for SAS internships is determined by the applicant’s year in school and the position they are hired into. Hourly rates range from $15 – $31 for associate’s/bachelor’s level positions and $29 - $49/hour for master’s/Ph. D positions. Internship roles are not eligible for bonuses.
