About the job

The Midtier Platform team within the SAS9 division is seeking a Software Developer to join our dynamic and impactful group. This team is responsible for building and maintaining the central platform of services that power all SAS9 web-based products.

Our core mission is to secure and modernize the platform, enhance its quality and performance, and address field-reported issues. The work is fast-paced and highly visible, influencing multiple SAS9 releases, ship events, solution teams, and divisions. In this role, you will design and develop high quality, scalable, and maintainable software and update the existing code. You will lead and provide guidance to junior developers. You will also help troubleshoot and triage issues and interact with SAS Technical Support to assist customers.

As a Sr Software Developer, you will:

  • Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines while adhering to R&D best practices and processes.
  • Program in Java on a Windows or Linux environment.
  • Lead scoping and planning activities on complex software development projects in a continuous delivery environment.
  • Collaborate with other developers, testers, project managers, and product managers to ensure implementations satisfy functional requirements and are consistent with established R&D standards.
  • Lead design, code, and documentation reviews.
  • Ensure quality through automated functional, unit, and performance testing.
  • Maintain accountability for the entire life cycle of the product code including providing technical support for both internal
  • Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals.
  • Support internal and external customers.
  • Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, or a related quantitative field.
  • 8+ years of software development/programming experience. 
  • Strong Java and Spring programming experience in both Windows and Linux environment
  • Strong knowledge of large-scale web-based enterprise software development
  • Strong understanding of software development tools, methodologies, and principles.
  • Experience using CVS, Gerrit, Git, or GitHub for source code management and code review.
  • Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

  • Knowledge of the SAS 9 product line and middle tier architecture.
