About the job
The Customer Impact Engineering team is a small, dynamic team looking for a Sr Software Developer to bring their Go, Java and Kubernetes knowledge with innovation to satisfy critical customer needs. Our team is the front line for our most strategic customers, bridging urgent business needs with deep technical understanding. This team is responsible for handling high-priority feature requests that arise outside the typical development pipeline.
We focus on rapidly understanding the why behind each request, creatively solving customer challenges, and identifying opportunities to deliver value—whether by leveraging existing platform capabilities or by designing and delivering new features within the Platform Services domain—the core of SAS’s latest Viya software.
As a Senior Software Developer, you will:
- Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams including product management, customer account managers, technical support analysts, and fellow developers to deliver secure, high-quality software solutions for SAS’ entire product portfolio.
- Design and develop high quality, testable and scalable software solutions within established timelines.
- Be aware of and adhere to R&D best practices and processes.
- Actively use AI tools to elevate and enhance your work on a daily basis.
- Stay current with emerging security threats, vulnerabilities, and industry best practices, applying this knowledge to strengthen our platforms.
- Ensure quality through functional, unit and performance testing; work closely with team SDET (Software Development Engineer in Test) by providing thorough reviews of the test plan and communicate when updates to the plan should be made to cover code changes related to enhancements, redesigns and/or bug fixes.
- Maintain accountability for the entire life cycle of the code including support for both internal and external consumers.
- Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.
- Ensure all applicable security policies and processes are followed to support the organization's secure software development goals

Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field
- 8+ years of professional software development experience
- 8 years of experience contributing across the full Software Development Life Cycle in any combination of areas of the software development stack, preferably with Java and/or Go
- Approach every task with a quality-first mindset
- Experience using IDE’s such as VSCode with integrated AI chat capabilities
- Experience with agile software development
- Experience with Continuous Integration and Delivery tools such as Git/Gerrit/Jenkins, Github, Gitlab, or similar
- Strong proficiency in Java and object-oriented programming principles
- Solid understanding of software development tools, methodologies (Agile/Scrum), and design principles
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.

- Gather, analyze, and interpret information to identify problems or opportunities; set decision criteria, evaluate options, and choose promptly; act based on facts and constraints to achieve optimal results.
- Experience with REST APIs design and implementation.
- Experience contributing at multiple levels of the software stack throughout your career with languages like Java or GO.
- Experience with building and orchestrating containers using technologies such as docker and Kubernetes
- Experience with cloud architecture and at least one major public cloud provider. Preferably Azure.
