About the job
The Senior R&D Project Manager manages the development and implementation process of the company’s R&D programs involving departmental or corporate-wide cross-functional teams from inception through delivery. This person will coordinate program-level goals and alignment across multiple supporting project teams to efficiently and effectively implement an integrated solution. The Senior R&D Project Manager plans and directs business and technical corporate activities ensuring functioning and/or completion of the programs on schedule which meet or exceed project stakeholder expectations, including agreed-to scope and quality. This person may function as a project manager for one or more R&D projects.
As a Sr R&D Project Manager, you will:
- Ensures alignment of program scope with strategic business objectives and makes recommendations.
- Communicates strategic intentions to all supporting project teams and ensures alignment of the project teams to the program-level goals.
- Identifies and monitors key measures related to stakeholder satisfaction and objectives attainment.
- Completes deadline-driven, team-based programs. Responsible for facilitating overall program business objectives, goals and technical requirements. Works with team and stakeholders to define program scope and goals.
- Plans, prioritizes, implements and adjusts delivery schedule, scope, resourcing, and quality, based on individual program requirements per consultation with program stakeholders.
- Negotiates resource needs and coordinates resources across business and technical groups for assigned programs including both domestic and international resources.
- Maintains program documentation such as program plans, schedules and status reports.
- Coordinates, communicates, and facilitates activities between team members and stakeholders to keep program on schedule and manages conflict. Coordinates risk mitigation activity and escalates as appropriate. Manages program scope and expectations. Identifies and constructively negotiates conflict or areas of high risk.
- Helps establish and maintain program operational rhythms, including intake processes, execution standards, and reporting cadences
- Monitor program health through metrics, dashboards, and reviews, proactively identifying operational gaps, risks, and improvement opportunities
- Leverages methodologies, processes, project tools, and best practices to accelerate program delivery.
- Acts as central point of contact for all business and technical issues and interfaces with interested parties across the Company to ensure program success.
- Be encouraged to participate in open-source projects on behalf of SAS.

Required qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field, preferably in Computer Science or a related discipline.
- A minimum of eight years of technical experience in project management.
- Has experience with project and program management tooling and workflows, particularly Jira and Confluence and Microsoft tools (e.g., Teams, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint)
- Equivalent combination of related education, training and experience may be considered in place of the above qualifications.
